St. Nicholas' Night Alcester

St. Nicholas' Night is a celebration of Alcester's Community and takes place annually on 6th December. A Community event with a parade along Alcester High Street, starting from Centenary Fields at 17:30 led by the Child Bishop, to celebrate the abundance of local organisations, charities and schools in Alcester before lighting the Church Tower and the tree.

New Year's Day January 1st. 2024

Alvechurch Morris in their alternate guise of Alvechurch Mummers will perform their traditional(ish) Mummers Play at about 13:00 Morris Time at the Crown, Withybed Green. This traditional kick starter to the New Year is never knowingly over rehearsed and frequently performed with scant regard to the script.

Ælfgythe Border Morris will be joining Alvechurch Morris and their guests at the Crown, Withybed Green and later at the Weighbridge for dancing and, maybe, a few songs.

For the rest of our planned outings please follow the link above to Ælf Diary page.

About Ælfgythe Border Morris

Meeting Place

We meet on Wednesday evenings throughout the year except during August when we take a well-earned break. We meet in the Baptist Church Hall, 29 Red Lion Street, Alvechurch B48 7LG from 20:00 onwards and, when sufficiently exercised, we retire to our local hostelry, the Weighbridge, to discuss the more pressing matters of the day!

If you want to call in and see us and find out more about who we are and what we do, please feel free to visit us on any Practice Night but before you travel please check that we are in the Baptist Hall as we may be out and about somewhere dancing because we would hate for you to have a wasted journey!

Ælfgythe Border Morris Membership

We welcome all prospective dancers and/or musicians, over the age of 16, irrespective of race, color, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, genetics, disability, or veteran status. If you want to join Ælfgythe Border Morris contact the Bag via the Contacts page.

Just remember "The hardest step is walking through the door, once you've done that the rest is easy!".

Ælfgythe Border Morris

Founded in 2008, Ælfgythe Border Morris were a black-face side for many years but have responded to the changing times in which we live and are now proud to go "Black & Silver" and we endorse the UK Joint Morris Organisation's statement on blackface.

"Our traditions do not operate in a vacuum. While no morris dancer wants to cause offence, we must recognise that full-face black or other skin tone makeup is a practice that has the potential to cause deep hurt. Morris is a living tradition and it is right that it has always adapted and evolved to reflect society. ......
